STI Novaliches Campus Finals 2010

By Janina Jayme, BA701E

JULY 23, 2010—It was a hot and sunny day. Most of the STiers were ecstatic to flaunt their “casual” get-ups and watch the STI’s Talent Search and attend the Acquaintance Party at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman. Some spectators went at the venue as early as 11 AM—an hour earlier than the supposed start time.

At exactly one o’clock in the afternoon, the program formally begun with a doxology performed by STI Matrix—the glee club of STI Novaliches headed by Mr. Jojit Alcalde and Ms. Armie Calma. Then, it was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the STI hymn. Engr. Hubert Abuan—the school’s Deputy Officer—also had his welcome remarks.

THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Out of the 14 bands that auditioned, only 3 were given the chance to compete for the campus finals. Three different genres clashed as Ela’s Thought, The Lost Vowels and All 3 Piece’s performances boomed out across the auditorium. All 3 Piece captured the judges’ favor as they emerged as winner with its rocking nationalistic song “Tayo’y mga Pinoy”.

STI IDOL

Proving that STIers are truly talented individuals, five students from various sections stunned the audience with their “birit” performances. Ela Dawn Antonio won as she sung “If I Don’t Have You”.

HATAW SAYAW

Five dance groups wowed the viewers with their bold, daring and dramatic moves.

Jennelyn Villasis of BA701E gracefully danced along with her groupmates collectively known as Tribo ni Pablo.

Amazed by all the dance teams, Prof. Rolando Bautista—as the Chairman of the Board of Judges-- announced Know ur Rank as the winner for the Hataw Sayaw.

MR. and MS. STI

Everybody deserves second chances.”

And that chance belongs to Jobelle Montecillo of BA301P. She was crowned as Ms. STI Novaliches first runner-up during last year’s competition. But she paved her way to success as she won Ms. STI Novaliches 2010 title recently. With her sophisticated beauty and undeniable wit, the title was meant for her. She also got the title for Best in Casual Wear.

Meanwhile, Ryan Roy de Jesus won the title Mr. STI Novaliches 2010. Other winners for the said event were: Archangel Sarco and Katrina Joyce Boiser (1st runners-up); Allan Manalansan and Ann Genevie Caballero (2nd runners-up).

The grand winners of the talent search will represent STI Novaliches in the cluster finals.

The Talent Search was fun and enjoyable. (Though I had a fever at that time!) It was also loaded of surprising numbers from the professors and instructors, and alluring performances from Anton Cruz and Shane Tarun of Who’s the Next Big Star. It was indeed a successful and splendid event!
